Exploring PK2 (2 Years)

A Season of Big Emotions, Bigger Leaps

Between 18 and 24 months, toddlers are braver, bolder, and busier than ever. They’re discovering their independence—and with that comes new joys, challenges, and incredible growth. At this stage, we guide your child through big feelings, big milestones, and the budding desire to “do it myself” with patience and encouragement.

Areas of Development We Support

Physical Development

Your toddler is always on the move—running, climbing, jumping, and dancing. They're refining balance, coordination, and spatial awareness.

  • How We Support It:
  • Obstacle courses and outdoor play promote gross motor confidence
  • Simple tasks like stacking, scooping, and pouring build fine motor skills
  • Finger painting, playdough, and bead threading add tactile fun
Cognitive Development

They’re asking questions without words, solving problems, and exploring patterns in their play.

  • How We Support It:
  • Open-ended play materials spark curiosity and experimentation
  • Activities like matching, sorting, and cause-and-effect toys build early logic
  • Simple routines and transitions encourage memory and anticipation
Language Development

You’ll hear more words, clearer expressions, and lots of repetition. Vocabulary is growing fast.

  • How We Support It:
  • Teachers narrate the day, encouraging two-way communication
  • Toddlers learn new words through songs, fingerplays, and group reading
  • Picture cards and puppets support early storytelling
Social &
Emotional Growth

Your child is developing their sense of identity while learning how to interact with others.

  • How We Support It:
  • Guided play teaches turn-taking, empathy, and sharing
  • We name and validate big feelings to build emotional vocabulary
  • Teachers provide consistent, loving responses during tough moments
Independence
& Self-care

Toddlers in this stage are eager to do things on their own—and we’re here to guide that energy in ways that support self-esteem and skill-building.

  • Encouraging Independence:
  • Children practice making simple choices and begin recognizing daily routines
  • Teachers give toddlers time and space to try new skills, with just the right amount of support
  • Children are encouraged to take part in clean-up, dressing, and small responsibilities
  • Practicing Self-Care:
  • Handwashing, wiping faces, and feeding themselves become daily learning moments
  • We begin to introduce potty awareness in partnership with families
  • Consistent routines help toddlers feel capable and proud of their growing abilities

Health & Safety Always Come First

By age two, your child is becoming more active and curious about their environment. Their growing mobility means they need increased supervision and guidance to ensure they stay safe. In PK2, we focus on teaching basic safety rules, such as looking both ways before crossing the room, understanding personal boundaries, and following adult instructions.

We also continue to encourage proper hygiene practices, like washing hands before meals and after outdoor play. Healthy eating, active living, and regular routines are emphasized as we support their physical development and well-being in a safe and nurturing environment.

Mother

Pacesetter Academy is arguably the best Preschool in the Miramar/Pembroke Pines area. My child has been attending this school for about a year and a half and his knowledge base has increased tremendously. I also appreciate them remaining open during this pandemic, allowing me to continue to work and my child to continue in his learning growth.
