Areas of Development We Support

Physical Development

Your five-year-old is agile, coordinated, and always on the move. They’re mastering both gross and fine motor skills with confidence.

  • How We Support It:
  • Dance, sports, and playground time build strength and coordination
  • Hands-on crafts, tool use, and writing activities develop fine motor control
  • Movement breaks and outdoor exploration keep bodies active and minds engaged
Cognitive Development

This age brings a leap in logic, reasoning, and curiosity. Your child can solve problems, follow multi-step instructions, and is hungry to learn.

  • How We Support It:
  • Math and science activities introduce counting, patterns,
    and cause-and-effect thinking
  • Strategic games and puzzles strengthen focus and memory
  • Inquiry-based projects encourage exploration and discovery
Language Development

Five-year-olds love to talk —and now they can really express themselves. They’re telling stories, asking big questions, and starting to read and write.

  • How We Support It:
  • Phonics, sight words, and early reading sessions develop literacy
  • Storytelling, journaling, and discussions build expressive language
  • Drama and role-play expand vocabulary and comprehension
Social & Emotional Development

Friendships deepen, empathy grows, and your child begins to manage emotions and conflicts with greater skill.

  • How We Support It:
  • Group projects and cooperative games teach teamwork and fairness
  • Emotional check-ins and mindfulness help with self-awareness
  • Teachers guide respectful conflict resolution and peer communication
Independence & Self-Care

At five, your child is ready to lead parts of their day. We give them room to rise to the occasion—while still offering gentle support.

  • Encouraging Independence:
  • Children make meaningful choices throughout the day
  • Responsibility routines (like organizing their belongings) foster ownership
  • We celebrate initiative, perseverance, and problem-solving
  • Practicing Self-Care:
  • Children practice personal hygiene and manage belongings
  • Mealtime routines promote independence and manners
  • We support readiness for kindergarten expectations like following classroom procedures and completing tasks

Health & Safety

By age five, your child’s safety knowledge and ability to navigate their surroundings improve. Children begin to understand personal responsibility and make choices that reflect awareness of their safety and the safety of others. We continue to support healthy eating, active living, and proper hygiene, preparing them for their transition to kindergarten.

At this stage, children are expected to follow safety guidelines independently, such as walking safely in the classroom and playground, handling tools and equipment with care, and understanding basic emergency procedures. Their growing sense of responsibility for their own well-being sets the foundation for a successful transition into formal schooling.

Alicia B
Mother

Pacesetter Academy is arguably the best Preschool in the Miramar/Pembroke Pines area. My child has been attending this school for about a year and a half and his knowledge base has increased tremendously. I also appreciate them remaining open during this pandemic, allowing me to continue to work and my child to continue in his learning growth.
